Anyone who has ever been in Uganda has seen this beauty in the national coat of arms. Yes, it is the national bird of Uganda. The red pouch is part of its sexual ornaments which inflates during courting rituals that involves dancing, jumping and bowing. A gentle bird it is. However, its loud call during flight has no semblance of gentle. Nonetheless, it cannot be compared to the louder Hadada.

I have had the pleasure of watching these two lovelies in my morning walks in Cherangany hills, Kenya. Sad to note that it is listed under the endangered species by  the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)
